Firms 'wasting money on disaster recovery'Insufficient disaster recovery schemes could be costing firms significant amounts of money, an IT expert has warned.David Davies, representative for Jermyn Consulting, argued that many businesses are spending more money than they need to by investing in disaster recovery schemes that are inappropriate for their needs, Consultant News reported. He called on IT decision-makers to improve their knowledge of disaster recovery issues and take note of new technological solutions which could save them time and money. Mr Davies said: "All too often, organisations either overspend on IT continuity or stick with tape backups, because they can't measure their requirements," the article noted. His comments followed those made by Pierre Dorion who, writing for Search Storage earlier this month, said that many firms have IT staff which lack the required technological knowledge to ensure they are adequately protected in the event of a disaster. Businesses should examine the procedures and technologies that would be used in their disaster recovery plan at least once a year, Mr Dorion suggested. ![]() |
