Hosted email 'boost a firm's green mandate'Firms which switch to hosted email solutions can make their operations greener and cheaper, an industry expert has suggested.Converged communication solutions are an available investment to many businesses despite today's challenging economic climate, noted Behzad Behtash, writing for Information Week. He said: "There's room for innovative consolidation approaches that provide a robust email environment while reducing the number of servers, improving reliability and service levels, and lowering costs." Email is now highly regarded among many firms as the most important form of communication and workplaces can be a scene of panic in the event of a server crashing, Mr Behtash noted. But by turning to hosted email technology, firms can reduce the number of data servers they have to maintain, he suggested. This reduces their carbon footprint, bandwidth usage and power consumption while also saving money, Mr Behtash added. Green IT solutions are an investment priority for 70 per cent of firms, when they are proven to offer savings on their IT budgets, according to a survey by Storage Expo earlier this month. ![]() |
