Virtualisation 'embraced as key technology'Businesses now treat virtualisation as a vital technology for their IT operations, according to a new white paper.Written by industry experts from Dell and VMware, the paper suggested that firms have realised the reductions in management costs that virtualisation brings by consolidating servers and storage infrastructures. Server consolidation is the main reason why companies opt for virtualisation, according to a recent survey by Storage Expo. But now businesses are turning to virtualisation to help with their disaster recovery processes, the report said. New software means firms can avoid the difficulties and costs associated with manual disaster recovery solutions by providing simple and affordable strategies within virtualised environments, the experts noted. "IT managers are looking to use virtualisation to help them overcome the challenges of traditional disaster recovery as well as tools to automate the recovery process," the white paper stated. Lower energy and procurement costs were cited as the added benefits of this disaster recovery strategy. ![]() |
