Emerging cloud platforms 'offer competitive advantage'Advancements in data storage within the cloud computing model could give businesses an extra edge, it has been suggested.New policy-based information management technology within the cloud platform can streamline the distribution of internet applications such as video sharing in line with users' popularity, geographic location and retention periods, suggested a report by storage firm EMC, as reported by Information Week. The developments could mean that firms will soon be able to dictate how, when and where information is accessed from the cloud platform, the article suggested. Benjamin Woo of industry analysts IDC told the news provider that the technology providing automated information management technology will be very useful for companies which have recently adopted cloud computing. He added: "Organisations that [can] leverage this architecture with a highly flexible and granular policy engine will gain a significant competitive advantage."
