'Defragmentation technology demand'There is high demand for defragmentation solutions within the enterprise market as firms continue to use larger amounts of storage space, it has been suggested. An article by Bruce Boyers Marketing Services (BBMS) discussed the need for defragmentation technology which adapts to the size and type of data it is condensing and can run in the background. Defragmentation software designed for smaller hard drives could fail when applied to larger-sized data volumes. The need to maintain performance levels and reliability is a must, but running ill-suited defragmentation software on high storage volumes could cause the computer to grind to a halt, the article noted. "Today's mammoth-capacity disks present a further problem, that of defragmenting them The result will be a defrag process that simply grinds on and on for days with no end in sight," BBMS commented. Firms rep could consider using USB devices for some aspects of their data storage since some products offer up to 8GB of memory space - more than many notebooks currently on sale, said Andrew Miller in an article at ITPro.co.uk. ![]() |
