Technology improvements bring 'cost-saving potential' to virtualisationNew IT technology stands to boost the take-up of virtualisation-based solutions.HP's new Virtual Connect Flex-10 Ethernet module claims to expand the cost-saving benefits of virtualisation by cutting network equipment costs by 55 per cent. Businesses are now adopting server virtualisation as they look to make their technology infrastructures as efficient as possible, the firm noted. But companies can face problems with networking costs and bandwidth flexibility as they look to re-vamp their IT setup, suggested Mark Potter, vice president and general manager of BladeSystem at HP. The group's new product means that the bandwidth of a 10GB Ethernet network can be spread across four interface card connections. Mr Potter commented: "These technologies break down the barriers of virtualised networks, giving customers the greatest return on their investments." It comes after Ronald Bowman, executive vice president of Tishman Technologies, earlier this month concluded that virtualisation-based solutions for most applications now offer a high standard of reliability. ![]() |
