'Need for data encryption technology'Trust Computing Group (TCG) has commented on a niche in the market for data encryption technology. In an editorial published by Data Storage Connection, the company explained the need for on-board data encryption technology to improve the security of data storage devices. "News reports show the vulnerability of unprotected content on optical discs being compromised when discs with sensitive data are lost or stolen," TCG noted. But if an IT solution enabled an encryption key to remain on a portable device, such as a laptop's hard disc, sensitive data could still be protected even if the computer was stolen or lost. Efforts are underway to introduce on-board data encryption solutions for other portable storage devices such as magnetic tape, flash memory and optical disks, TCG said. Meanwhile, a Bruce Boyers Marketing Services article recently noted that the significant rise in hard drive sizes used by company computers has brought about a technological need for improved defragmentation solutions. ![]() |
