Green IT 'in line with consumer sentiment'
Companies which adopt greener IT technology are matching the evolving sentiments of consumers in terms of their attitudes on climate change, an expert has said.
According to the TheUltimateGreenStore.com, more consumers prefer to purchase products from companies whose operations take into account the health of the environment.
Recent research in the US has found that almost 90 per cent of consumers have shopped or plan to shop green, the group noted.
The findings could prompt businesses using IT technology to invest in green solutions such as virtualisation and cloud computing services.
In addition, research by Gartner last month showed that firms could need just 15 per cent of their electricity consumption to cool their data centres through greener practises, whereas traditional methods require between 35 and 50 per cent of power usage.
On the growth of green-conscious shopping, TheUltimateGreenStore.com stated: "The growing legion of environmentally conscious shoppers dubbed 'Greenfluencers' represent an influential and discerning group who are eco-savvy and informed."
