Virtualisation 'exciting prospect in disaster recovery'An industry expert believes virtualisation could be an exciting area in the potential for new disaster recovery solutions.J Peter Bruzzese, writing in a blog at InfoWorld, said virtualisation is an "interesting space to watch" as new disaster recovery methods are developed in the industry. He commented that virtualisation is typically noted for reducing a company's hardware, while providing the same services. Linked with new data back-up concepts, the technology could be an exciting prospect, Mr Bruzzese suggested. "Combine it with high availability and concepts such as physical-to-virtual replication or virtual-to-virtual replication, and you have some exciting material for a future column," he said. Mr Bruzzese's article also noted the benefits of cloud computing within disaster recovery. He said that software-as-a-service solutions using the cloud could offer many firms a more cost-effective approach to safeguarding their data. Dot Net Solutions chief executive Dan Scarfe recently argued that storing data in the cloud is more secure than having it hosted on a business' own premises. ![]() |
