Virtualisation and green IT take-up to increaseThe economic climate's affect on business' budgets could mean that virtualisation and green IT will emerge as 'hot' technology trends in 2009, it has been suggested.A Government Technology survey of chief information officers and security experts in the US found that the majority of respondents believe state and local governments will invest in IT services that are easier on their budgets. According to David Fletcher, chief technology officer of Utah, the affect of the global credit crunch could force local authorities to adopt new hosted IT solutions, the firm reports. "Tight budgets could force governments to ramp up green IT, and server and storage virtualisation," he said. Software-as-a-service might also be used more to provide better deployment of business productivity applications, while Web 2.0 will also continue to evolve, Mr Fletcher argued. It comes after a study by F5 Networks found that Europe is ahead of the US in terms of companies which are currently implementing or planning to use storage virtualisation within the next six to 12 months. ![]() |
