Communications solutions 'take off'Firms are increasingly warming to the benefits of internet-based communications solutions, an expert has said.Richard Grigonis, writing for Internet Telephony Magazine, commented that the advantages of internet protocol (IP) connectivity are catching on as more businesses look to save costs through IP-based communications. New voice, video, email and instant messaging communication tools are attracting greater interest from companies, Mr Grigonis suggested. "IP communications in all its forms can actually save money, increase productivity and improve customer satisfaction," he added. Increased take-up of IP communications technology could prompt more firms to consider the potential cost savings provided by hosted IT services such as cloud computing and using software-as-a-service applications. Mr Grigonis also commented that recent research by the Yankee Group found that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) had enabled businesses to reduce their phone bills by 22 per cent. Samih Elhage, president of carrier VoIP and application solutions at Nortel, recently predicted that the popularity of VoIP will lead organisations to invest in other multimedia applications. ![]() |
