Virtualisation and SaaS adoption tipped to growMore businesses will adopt virtualisation and software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology as the economic crisis encourages firms to consider new, low-cost IT infrastructure, an expert has suggested.Michael Dean, group marketing manager of the National Computing Centre (NCC), predicted interest in SaaS and virtual desktop infrastructure from organisations to increase as they become more familiar with virtualisation. Research by the NCC has shown that more companies are deploying the technology, Mr Dean said. His comments come after the International Data Corporation recently predicted that the IT industry's adoption of cloud computing could accelerate during 2009 as a result of the bad economy prompting firms to consider the low costs associated with hosted IT services. Mr Dean predicted SaaS and virtual desktop infrastructure adoption to increase as businesses become more familiar with virtualisation. "Many organisations will use the current situation as an opportunity to make significant changes, if they can see cost saving opportunities," he added. ![]() |
