Saas technology take-up tipped to grow

Security professionals in the UK believe the take-up of software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology will continue to increase.

A poll at CSO Interchange Event in London found that nearly nine in ten respondents think the system will replace enterprise software for mission critical applications by 2013.

Almost one in five were even more optimistic, forecasting that this would take place inside the next year.

The survey at the Qualys-organised event also revealed that two-thirds of security executives have carried out an initial assessment of the value of SaaS technology.

Meanwhile, those who have not yet done so stated that they were planning to look at its potential worth in the near future.

People in the industry were also found to be largely convinced that information is secure with SaaS, with 55 per cent saying it is easier to store data with this technology.

This comes after Hadrian James, technology manager at Compuware, stated that cloud server security depends on how the provider is firewalling and what services they provide.
