Don't miss out on cost-saving IT solutions, expert warnsBusiness should avoid be tied down to a particular IT solution when technology developments are creating more opportunities for cost-saving infrastructures, an expert has suggested. If firms become locked into a particular IT system, they could miss out on new solutions that could save them money, commented Michael Dean, group marketing manager of the National Computing Centre. Virtual desktop infrastructure is one area of IT he highlighted as providing potential for growth as server virtualisation deployment increases. According to an International Data Corporation's research report on potential developments within the IT industry in 2009, cloud computing will continue to grow as the economic crisis prompts more businesses and subsequently IT suppliers, to consider the low costs associated with the cloud model. On companies' outlook in terms of IT solutions, Mr Dean said: "The issue they face is how to avoid being locked into a particular solution at a time when technological developments and competition can drive costs down in short space of time." ![]() |
