SaaS applications predicted to thrive

A global IT solutions provider has predicted software-as-a-service technology to thrive in 2009 as more firms demand hosted services and improve their infrastructure.

Networking technology will become king in 2009, providing the perfect platform for SaaS delivery, the company's report predicted.

Highlighting key industry trends that could grow in popularity next year, the report suggested that hosted services, available on demand, would be well-suited to IT budgets in the current economic climate.

"Buying computing resources a la carte will help companies control costs while attaining the security, performance, scalability and reliability required for the enterprise," the firm said.

The report also highlighted that businesses would be looking to use modern IT technology to boost productivity in 2009.

This could mean that managed hosting services will become more popular among larger enterprises, because they enable specialised issues to be handled by third-party experts, meaning core business areas can be prioritised.

A survey by industry analysts Gartner recently showed that 90 per cent of organisations are planning to maintain or increase their use of SaaS technology.
