Virtualisation growth to continue in 2009More companies will switch to virtualised applications in 2009, an industry expert has predicted.According to John Suit of FortiSphere, writing at ZDNet.co.uk, vendors will continue to deliver new technological enhancements in virtualisation which will be able to cut business' bottom line results. Firms will be attracted to virtualisation because they can reduce floor space and save money on power usage in their data centres, Mr Suit suggested. He commented that businesses will be approaching 2009 with the aim of making money spent on IT investments 'go further'. "The first step likely will be to evaluate how their current resources are being deployed and how they can reduce waste," Mr Suit said. Servers and storage solutions could also feature in the trend towards virtual resources, he suggested. Advancements in the technology during 2008 have already laid the groundwork for the first wholly-virtual data centre, Mr Suit noted. More than 70 per cent of organisations view server virtualisation as a technology of major significance, revealed National Computing Centre's Benchmark of IT Strategy 2008 survey. ![]() |
