The cloud is 'a busy place'An industry expert has commented that cloud computing is part of an increasingly busy place as businesses begin to address their IT storage infrastructures.Bob Evans, writing at Information Week, commented on the findings of a Gartner survey earlier this month, which revealed that more than half of enterprises believe they will soon be using IT services hosted in the cloud instead of choosing to manage them on site. The Gartner study involved 500 respondents, of which 11 per cent said they "never" plan to adopt this procedure. Writing at the industry analysts website last week, Thomas Bittman suggested that this group could include larger organisations which place a high emphasis on security. However, Mr Evans questioned this, noting: "Does that mean there are some very large organisations where data-centre security and compliance are not absolutely critical." Dan Scarfe, chief executive of Dot Net Solutions, recently claimed that data managed by experts in the cloud is more secure than when it is stored on a firm's own premises. ![]() |
