Server virtualisation 'saves money and the planet'
A bank in India has highlighted the financial and environmental benefits of using server virtualisation.
ICICI Bank has consolidated its IT system from more than 230 servers to just five, a move it says has saved it large sums of money.
Pravir Vohra, chief technology officer at the group, added that streamlining its technology in this way is also leading to less energy being wasted.
As a result, server virtualisation is benefiting the environment and helping to boost the company's financial status.
Speaking to IT World, Mr Vohra commented: "It not only addresses the global phenomenon of environmentally responsible business, but also leads to efficiency gains and associated cost savings."
He added that the bank also benefits from being seen as an environmentally-aware enterprise.
A recent survey by the National Computing Centre found that one in five respondents are now using sever virtualisation, while many more are planning to switch to the technology.
