Firms predict importance of green IT
Green IT is becoming more important to businesses, an industry study has shown.
Conducted by Green IT Magazine in conjunction with iomart, the survey of 3,102 IT managers found that 78 per cent view say green issues will become more of a priority during 2009.
However, some 62 per cent of firms are yet to have a green policy in place.
Nine in ten companies said green issues are already important or very important to their operations.
Furthermore, the study showed that two-thirds of companies believe green IT could save their organisations money, as well as boosting environmental performance.
Commenting on the findings, Green IT Magazine's Josh Boulton said: "The rush to be green appears to be taking a new and more focused direction, with cost and accountability coming to the fore."
Research by Gartner last month predicted that through greener measures, firms could reduce electricity consumption from data centres to 15 per cent of their organisation's overall output.
