Report to advocate 'bridging the UK broadband gap'More businesses could expand their move to online internet technologies in the future as a new industry report is set to recommend universal broadband access across the UK.Broadband.co.uk managing director Edd Dawson believes a new report by first minister for communications, technology and broadcasting Lord Stephen Carter will highlight universal access to broadband as a key priority. "We very much expect his main area of focus to be universal broadband access across the country, and the minimum speed that is often mentioned is two Mbps," Mr Dawson said. Lord Carter's report, entitled Digital Britain, will be delivered in Westminster on January 14th. Greater consumer access to higher internet speeds could boost the future for companies operating online, as well as allowing more businesses access to improved data storage capabilities provided by applications and services which are 'hosted' online. Download speeds on the average broadband connection generally fall by about a quarter during peak times, according to recent research by broadband.co.uk. ![]() |
