Virtualisation seen by firms as 'key server-management technology'Virtualisation has been flagged up as one of the key server-management tasks for companies in the next few years.Respondents to a survey by ZDNet found that this will be one of the most important features of the technology by 2014. This is despite the fact that virtualisation is not currently being seen as a key feature for server operating systems. Indeed, respondents to the survey rated issues such as high reliability, identity management and scalability as greater priorities at the moment. "Our research revealed that many end users are still wary of implementing virtualisation," ZDNet commented. "When they do so, they still view it as separate technology from the operating system." The comments come ahead of the expected release of Microsoft's new virtualisation management tool this week. According to a recent report by the National Computing Centre, one in five businesses currently use server virtualisation. ![]() |
