Virtualisation 'boom' predicted for 2009

This year has been tipped to be a busy period for the virtualisation industry by analysts at Datamation.

According to the media outlet, 2008 was a busy year for the sector, with the launch of new technology from Microsoft and VMware.

This trend is expected to continue into 2009, as other rival companies are aiming to secure their own share of the market though acquisitions and organic growth.

Despite the rush of activity last year, Datamation believes this will prove to be fairly limited when compared with what will happen in the coming months.

"All of that was merely a preamble to what is shaping up to be an even more active virtualisation year in 2009," it commented.

The website said the fact that it offers immediate cost savings mean that more businesses are likely to adopt the technology.

This follows a report from the International Data Corporation, which said the current economic climate might fuel the take-up of more cost-effective innovations.
