SaaS 'poised to prosper'Companies are being advised to adopt software-as-a-service by an industry figure.Utilising SaaS can be a viable profit-maker, according to Jeffrey M. Kaplan, managing director of THINKstrategies. "The SaaS and cloud computing market is attracting a plethora of players seeking to gain a share of this rapidly-growing opportunity," he writes in the New England technology journal Mass High Tech. Mr Kaplan also mentions the "measurable business benefits" that vendors of the service are delivering and cites the ability to deploy web-based services quickly as a major attraction to would-be subscribers. Recent research by THINKstrategies reveals that SaaS usage has doubled in the last year, with over two-thirds of survey respondents claiming to use the service last year, up from 32 per cent in 2007. Industry body IDC published results of a similar poll earlier this week in which over three-quarters of respondents say they will use SaaS at some time in the following year. ![]() |
