Green IT 'can save money'Businesses are being advised to implement green IT in order to cut costs and protect the environment.Industry expert Kothandaraman Karunagaran, director of infrastructure services at Computer Sciences Corporation India, recommends that firms implement "real-time measurements" to monitor and improve energy efficiency. "Environmental protection issues are increasingly gaining visibility in the enterprise today with more business managers losing sleep over this. Corporations are made responsible for the environmental effects of the products they are producing," he writes for Express Computer. Mr Karunagaran believes that a company's brand image and market share may soon depend on how green it is and states that green IT is currently topping analysts' technology and trend lists. Business can save 55 per cent of the energy they expend by focusing on green solutions, he says. Server farms adapting the strategies can save up to 80 per cent on their average output, according to James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com. ![]() |
