Green IT can cut costsBusinesses can use green IT as a cost-cutting measure, an industry expert claims.Michael Vizard, editor in chief of InfoWorld Media Group, tells eWEEK there are many benefits to using green IT aside from saving the environment. He states: "Businesses everywhere are strapped for cash, so every effort made to reduce power consumption results in savings that drop to the bottom line". Mr Vizard adds that companies will later have a substantial opportunity to "create new jobs around green, clean technology". Organisations may also benefit by absolving themselves of potential penalties issued through government mandates relating to power consumption, he tells the website. The use of applications such as energy management tools will enable money to be saved in the long term which justifying its short-term costs. James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, recently told companies there is a "strong commercial case" for the use of green IT. ![]() |
