Running out of energy 'a constant threat'
Businesses are being warned of the risks associated with running out of power by an industry safeguarding and solutions expert.
Thesaurus says that data organisations operating at full IT capacity are often not supplying enough physical energy to servers and cooling systems, can compromise performance.
The company's chief executive, Mike Vinten, claims many firms will suffer downtime associated with power loss this year.
He states: "Consolidating servers and becoming energy efficient is now not just a tick in the green computing box, but a necessity for any organisation that aims to minimise server downtime and failure."
The addition of failover technologies, which switch to a standby network in when the primary server fails, will also minimise downtime, he adds.
BNB's recently constructed Elean Data Centre, near Cambridge, reduces carbon emissions by 40 per cent and energy consumption by almost a third compared to traditional units by using more efficient cooling techniques.
