Green IT is 'moving to resource preservation'Businesses are using green IT as a means of cutting costs, as well as conserving energy, an industry commentator asserts.Mike Vizard, senior vice president of market strategies and content services at Ziff Davis Enterprise, tells Channel Insider the emphasis for the initiative "is shifting again". He comments: "The green IT issue quickly became about saving money on power and cooling costs because electricity prices were climbing in many of the major markets." Mr Vizard adds the initiative is now closely associated with total cost of ownership (TCO), which is more likely to excite organisations aiming to get more life out of their devices. He claims green IT is fast becoming a byword for "saving jobs" in the sector, as managers search for ways of eliminating costs without compromising staff numbers. Industry expert David Boothroyd, client services manager at Avanquest, recently highlighted that businesses can reduce overhead and their carbon footprint by implementing eco-friendly technology into their infrastructure. ![]() |
