Firms 'should be aware' of security breachesBusinesses should be aware of the potential of lapses in security, a specialist asserts.Adequately securing portable devices is a key aspect of ensuring loopholes are not exploited, according to IT expert Steganos. Michael Marzy, chief executive officer of the company, says applications such as privacy suites can be used at work, home and when travelling. He comments: "Everyone has personal digital data that they need to protect, and as consumers buy and use more mobile devices, they need to ensure that their data is not at risk when they are on the move." Creating a series of complex password is one way of preventing unauthorised users accessing the account, Mr Marzy adds. Portable virtual safes which only the owner can access and digital shredders for deleting confidential files are also effective means of protecting data. Isabella Sankey, director of policy at the National Council for Civil Liberties, believes adequate controls on data collection must keep pace with technological advances. ![]() |
