Companies 'may benefit from encryption'Using encryption software can be of benefit to firms looking to enhance security, an industry body claims.Devices which protect workstations from inbound threats can be used portably for those working away or from home, claims IT expert Avanquest. Applications can secure access to encrypted files on removable devices and protect from threats such as malware and viruses, the company asserts. It states: "Some encryption programs don't allow users to use their protected files on other PCs. So switching between a work, home or a remote public PC can be a problem." Once installed on a removable device, software then runs on it, so can be transported to different locations. Management can also track the whereabouts of the implement, meaning unauthorised users can not access sensitive data in the event of loss or theft, the firm concludes. Bernard Parsons, chief executive officer of security specialists BeCrypt, recently warned companies to be aware of the continuous threat posed by data thieves. ![]() |
