Expert: More business to use green IT
The number of companies implementing green IT is set to grow, a sector expert announces.
Factors such as the worldwide economic downturn will not inhibit the initiative, according to Christopher Mines, senior vice president at industry analyst Forrester.
He tells Cybermedia India Online: "The early read indicates that a slow macro economy will not slow green IT efforts and there is a significant opportunity for IT organisations to implement green IT."
Businesses currently spend $500 million (£350 million) a year on the initiative, but this could rise by a thousand per cent by in the next four years, Mr Mines asserts.
Suppliers should opt for a more "rigorous" green procurement criteria, as the services offered by cloud computing are still underplayed by infrastructure vendors, the news provider quotes him as saying.
Kothandaraman Karunagaran, director of infrastructure services at CSC India, recently extolled the virtues of green IT in a column for Express Computer, saying the initiative is gaining increased visibility in the business world.
