Virtualised products revealedA software specialist has released a new product designed to enhance virtualisation in data centres.Tech firm VMware revealed its new vSphere line of products at VMWorld 2009 in Cannes, France, claiming the application will replace its current virtual infrastructure platform. Paul Maritz, chief executive officer of the company, believes many organisations expend a great deal of their IT budget on issues such as lighting and plumbing that do not make a difference to the business. The new software provides a foundation for an internal cloud, with the infrastructure built on standard industry models. He comments: "We will use that to support our existing applications by adding in a layer of software that allows scalability and availability through software." The practice is akin to combining software to create a single, large computer, Mr Maritz adds. Matt Storey, systems technical coordinator of information systems services at Lancaster University, recently told Computing.co.uk many companies are turning to virtualisation technology as they run out of data centre space. ![]() |
