Virtualised services 'offer better security'Many firms are being put off by virtualisation technology because they fear not being able to physically see information, according to a specialist.Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of solutions firm ThinkGrid, believes businesses have a greater chance of securing information in the cloud than in an office environment. "People have a natural good feeling about having something in their office where physically they can see it. That's probably the least secure place you can put your data, somewhere it can be burgled or there's no disaster recovery," he states. Although virtualisation services have been established for many years, Mr Lovell claims the main barrier for many business managers is trust. The security concern needs to be overcome in order for companies to benefit from the options available, the expert concludes. Dot Net solutions recently illustrated the success of the cloud by pointing to Microsoft's purchase of 10,000 servers every month. ![]() |
