Firms 'should trust hosting'Companies must place trust in hosted services in order to make a successful transition, an expert asserts. Many organisations are rooted in a PC mentality which prevents them from being able to embrace virtualisation, claims Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of IT specialists ThinkGrid. "Having [IT] hosted means that you've got that accessibility anywhere and in general you also get better availability and backup," he states. Mr Lovell adds that the general benefit of the technology is a freeing-up of office space which also means managers and staff do not need to worry about a physical server. In order to work remotely, firms need to "jump over" the hurdle posed by a transition to hosting, which means applying a deal of trust in the model, he concludes. Sector specialist Dot Net Solutions recently pointed to Microsoft's purchase of 10,000 new servers a month as an illustration of the growing popularity of virtualisation. ![]() |
