Green data centre to go ahead in CanadaThe greenest data centre in North America will soon be constructed in Canada, its developers assert.International telecoms organisation Telus has announced the construction of a new facility funded by $500 million (£350 million) in capital investment. Darren Entwhistle, president and chief executive of the company, says it is currently looking for a suitable location in British Columbia. He comments: "Our $500 million investment focused on leading broadband technology will create sustainable employment opportunities, contribute to the province's future competitiveness and support the launch of innovative new services." Mr Entwhistle adds that the new building will adopt green credentials ranging from sustainable site development and water savings to energy efficiency and specific material selection. Recent research conducted by industry analyst Digital Realty Trust shows that the average data centre budget is expected to rise by seven per cent this year, despite IT expenditure being restricted due to the global economic crisis. ![]() |
