Practical judgment 'the key to business security'Businesses should employ practical judgment when considering the best way to protect the company, an expert asserts.A combination of common sense and the latest security technology can ensure an organisation is safe from hackers and other threats, claims David Emms, senior technology consultant at the international information security software vendor Kasperky Lab. "[The issue] is more what you would call in the real world common sense but it's not common sense in the online world because people are not familiar with the technology in many cases," he comments. Mr Emms adds that in many cases it is a technological issue which can be solved by enlisting the help of a security provider. Other measures such as checking patches are up to date and changing passwords for each application can further bolster a firm's security, the expert concludes. The recent Sophos Security Threat Report reveals that last year there was a significant increase in the number of cybercriminal gangs attacking innocent victims with malicious code, highlighting the need for effective protection. ![]() |
