'Switch off monitors' to increase energy efficiencyBusinesses can adopt small measures in order to increase energy efficiency and contribute towards reducing carbon emissions, an expert reveals.Turning off unused monitors and ensuring idle PCs are switched off can help towards meeting the government's carbon reduction targets, claims Sumi Karayi, chief executive officer of global software provider 1E. He comments: "The government is bringing in a target to reduce the emissions from industry from now till 2020. The total target for 2020 is four million tonnes of CO2 per year." My Karayi says the savings achieved by adopting a system which can power down unused appliances could total £300 million a year in the UK. The sum is the equivalent of 1.3 million of CO2 emissions annually, he states, which highlights the environmental case for implementing green IT measures. A recent energy report from the company reveals more than two-thirds of British employees believe their company should be doing more to reduce energy consumption. ![]() |
