'Small measures' can help prevent global warming

Businesses can help the environment by making small changes to their operations, a conversation organisation claims.

Making small adjustments to daily routines such as switching off lights that are not in use can help to save the environment, claims the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Colin Butfield, head of campaigns at the organisation, says half of the overall impact on climate change comes from things individuals could be doing themselves.

He states issues such as correct insulation and using appliances which are energy efficient contribute towards halting global warming and may also enhance green IT credentials.

Buildings such as power stations and data centres which need governance can all be augmented to use less power, the expert concludes.

Nearly 700 businesses took part in the WWF's Earth Hour on Saturday, an event which involved companies switching off all their lights for one hour in an attempt to promote global action on climate change.
