Data centres can get black-box technologyData centres could be able to discover the source of a disaster with new 'black box' technology.Axxana, an Israeli company, has developed a system based on aeroplanes' data recovery system, whereby data which has not yet been stored in the disaster recovery system can be saved and acces sed. The Phoenix System is designed in a 180kg enclosure which can withstand direct flames of up to 2,000 degrees F, 30ft of water, pressure of 5,000lb and a shock of 40G. Axxana's system is hooked up to a storage system which records the centre's data on its own storage, while the information is also transmitted to a remote site. In the event of a disaster the system can then be recovered using the homing signal and connecting a laptop with the software. The company also promises to save businesses money, as it reduces the reliance on nearby data centres and so reduces the need for high bandwidth at all times. It promises the new invention will change the face of the disaster recovery industry. ![]() |
