Cisco reveals virtualisation architectureAn industry communications specialist has revealed new architecture which bridges silos through industry standard technologies.Networking expert Cisco's new Unified Computing system combines network, storage access and virtualisation resources within an IT infrastructure to provide a single energy-efficient system. The company claims the new application can reduce business costs and complexity. Unified Computing takes advantage of the "architectural shift" in data centre operations, claims Mario Mazzola, senior vice president of the company's server access and virtualisation business unit. "We developed a unique new computing model that transforms the data centre into a dynamic IT environment with the power to increase productivity, improve business agility and drive the benefits of virtualisation to an entirely new level," he comments. The new system uses integrated management and combines a unified fabric to reduce overall costs and provide dynamic resource provisioning for increased business agility. Cisco also recently released the data centre virtual switch Nexus 1000V, which delivers consistent per-virtual-machine visibility and policy control for SAN, LAN and unified fabric. ![]() |
