Hosting adoption 'set to increase'The adoption of hosted technology is set to increase as it grows in importance, according to an expert.Servers are the "lifeblood" of businesses and users will continue to implement virtualised services in an effort to save money, claims Phil Turnbull, product manager at computing specialist Hostway. A recent report by the International Data Corporation predicted software-as-a-service adoption would increase by 31 per cent in 2009, which illustrates the popularity of the technology, he states. Mr Turnbull comments: "Small and medium-sized companies should think seriously about whether their needs would be better served by outsourcing to an externally hosted platform, be that a cloud or other virtualised solution." Cost-cutting solutions may involve switching to a pay-monthly model, which provides enterprise-level support and infrastructure and only charges for what is used, he adds. Servers need to be both fast, secure and easily scalable in order to be able to cope with changes in the volume of network traffic, the expert concludes. ![]() |
