Hosting experts chosen for web portalIndustry specialist iomart has been chosen to provide national bus organisation Stagecoach with managed hosting services through four of its data centres. The colocation and server expert will use facilities located in Leicester, Glasgow, London and Nottingham which to develop a carbon-cutting web portal. According to Stagecoach, the new site will enable travellers to plan their journeys in a more energy effective way by offering a carbon calculator which provides constantly-updated emission statistics. Chief executive of iomart Angus MacSween says the organisation is committed to integrating power-efficient stewardship into "every aspect" of its facilities. He comments: "Data centres consume large amounts of energy, so we're constantly looking for new ways to cut our own carbon emissions. We are pro-actively seeking to reduce cost at every opportunity. Steve Stewart, director of corporate communications at Stagecaoach, says the company chose iomart, which recently altered its brand identity to present a 'greener' image, because of its commitment to environmental management. ![]() |
