Hosted server sales 'will increase'

The group vice-president of IDC Matt Eastwood has announced that hosted server sales will rise.

Commenting on the report by IDC which found that many companies are reining in IT expenditure because of the recession, he said that the global computer server market will improve.

Many firms may realise that the short-term savings of cutting back may not compete with the long-term benefits of having resources such as Microsoft Hosted Sharepoint.

The SharePoint Server can help improve organisational effectiveness because of the comprehensive content management it delivers.

Furthermore, IT developers are given the tools required for server administration and interoperability.

Speaking about the reining in of IT expenditure and hosted server sales, Mr Eastwood said that while effective in the near term, "server demand will begin to improve in the second half of the year as customers begin to rebuild their IT capabilities in advance of a meaningful economic recovery in 2010".
