Companies 'investing in DR for data centres'Businesses have begun to invest greater amounts into protecting their hosted exchange servers and data centres during the economic downturn as more firms worry about a lack of business continuity planning, new research has revealed.A report by telecoms major AT&T has shown that in recent months the level of IT spending for many businesses has been boosted in a bid to improve disaster recovery (DR) efforts and to protect datastreams. "In today's business environment, connectivity cannot be disrupted, which is why business continuity planning and disaster recovery efforts are paramount," Bill Archer, chief marketing officer at AT&T Business Solutions, commented. However, Ganesh Selvarajah, adviser at Business Link, recently noted that it is only when a firm's IT infrastructure fails that they seriously consider investing in upgrading their data management equipment. He noted that small businesses in particular can be prone to this shortsightedness in business continuity planning. ![]() |
