Businesses 'must restore communication during a crisis'Restoring business communications is the single most important aspect of disaster recovery, it has been argued.Chief technology officer at WTS Richard Dolewski noted that businesses must invest in maintaining strong communications in order to avoid disaster. He argued: "The single point of failure of almost every IT infrastructure scenario is the underlying fact that companies still hope that in an actual disaster, their staff will be available to travel to their recovery site and execute their recovery." Therefore, Mr Dolewski argued that business continuity often hinges on the swift restoration of communication channels. Meanwhile, Richard Jones, data centre specialist at the Burton Group, recently wrote on SearchDataCenter.com that disaster recovery efforts should remain a priority during the economic downturn. Despite this, he noted that many firms are now in the process of reining back IT spending, a development which could hinder future disaster recovery efforts for these businesses. ![]() |
