IT infrastructure 'unable to cope with expansion'Companies have been advised to boost IT spending or face a rise in the level of data being lost.Glyn Owen, portfolio manager at Damovo UK, said that businesses could be putting themselves in a position whereby they will require disaster recovery assistance, as they continue to increase the number of applications being run on servers while failing to invest in upgrading a networks capabilities beforehand. He commented: "We're seeing a mixed impact ... of organisations being stretched with their resources, but at the same time [trying] to get more out of their existing infrastructures." Mr Owen noted that cutbacks in IT spending have meant that businesses are now in a precarious position whereby growth in the amount of information being handled by a firm could push their IT system over the edge. According to research carried out by Damovo UK, 44 per cent of firms have cut back on IT spending in the last year, meaning that many companies are operating with an increased risk of serious data loss should anything untoward happen to their server systems. ![]() |
