Open source benefits for businessMore businesses across the UK are switching on to the benefits of embracing open source data management applications, it has been claimed.Research compiled by IDC has shown that disaster recovery readiness is a top priority for many firms at present, as is cost reduction. As a result, more are turning to open source applications as a way of minimising costs and improving data recoverability through improved IT infrastructure. Bo Lykkegaard, research director for European enterprise applications and services at IDC, commented: "The survey results show that open source adoption in enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management has reached a critical threshold and should now make a 'bleep' on every vendor's radar screen." Dave Pistacchio recently noted in an article for SaaS Ulitzer that businesses are now becoming more focused than ever on reducing server downtime in a bid to put off any instances of data loss and disaster recovery. ![]() |
