Disaster recovery benefits of CDPContinuous data protection (CDP) can help a business boost its disaster recovery preparedness, it has been argued.Firms could benefit from having up-to-date files in storage at all times, thereby leaving themselves less open to the possibility of significant data loss causing them to lose productivity and profitability, according to Searchdatabackup.com. "Where we see CDP being deployed is really as part of a broader data protection strategy that includes CDP for operational recovery," commented Rick Walsworth, EMC's director of product marketing for cross-platform replication solutions. He added that CDP often works well when aligned with hosted exchange systems such as Microsoft's Hosted Exchange Server software. Meanwhile, a recent study carried out by IT security business Symantec showed that two-thirds of UK PC owners do not backup their files on a regular basis. The research also showed that more than 40 per cent have suffered an incident of data loss as a result of having insufficient backup in place. ![]() |
