Security software market 'still strong'The global data security software market grew by 18 per cent last year, new figures have revealed.Research carried out by global IT consultancy Gartner showed that overall spending on security software totalled $11.3 billion (£6.9 billion) in 2008. However, a spokesperson for the organisation warned that despite this increase, companies are still looking to get value for money on their investments in this area of IT infrastructure. Ruggero Contu, principle research analyst at the firm, said: "During times of economic uncertainty and budget restrictions, IT security leaders increasingly need to show business value and cost effectiveness for security measures and this has impacted and slowed sales cycles." Gartner security analyst Adam Hills also recently stated that many firms are in fact increasing the amount they spend on data and disaster recovery at present. He noted that security issues are becoming a more talked about subject with company bosses. ![]() |
