HPC 'helps firms improve performance'High-performance cloud (HPC) systems could help businesses streamline data management processes more easily, it has been argued.Ignacio Llorente, founder of the HPC and grid computing discussion group, claimed that firms can improve data availability and standardise processes and software across divisions more easily through the uptake of HPC. He said that business productivity could be given a boost through this standardisation practice, as large amounts of data can be accessed and handled more efficiently by greater numbers of staff when using HPC. Finally, Mr Llorente argued that scalability and elasticity of management are two of the other major benefits of embracing HPC. Jeff Boles recently wrote in an article for InfoStor that cloud-based data storage solutions provide increased data security for businesses and could vastly increase data storage capacity. However, Mr Boles warned that during periods of large-scale data backup or recovery, access to files contained in the cloud could be restricted. ![]() |
