Firms 'waiting to upgrade'It is common sense that companies starting up will not have access to the same level of IT expenditure as more established businesses and therefore will have lower-spec IT infrastructure. However, Karl Paulsen wrote in his blog for TV Technology that many firms do not upgrade their systems as soon as they could, preferring to wait until their infrastructure is no longer sufficient to meet their needs before acting. Mr Paulsen stated that this can be a mistake, as it is important not to let systems get overloaded, as it is at this point that mistakes and data loss can occur. James Rowlands, chief executive officer of Liken, recently said that many firms are currently looking at ways to reduce IT expenditure, but he warned that this could leave them lagging behind their competitors in terms of an ability to move swiftly when a recovery takes place. He also noted that insufficient investment could leave companies open to compliance issues. ![]() |
